7 songs for your road trip, one line at a time

Category : Travel Tips

Like beach sunsets and pina coladas, music and travel go together. So gaze through the windshield of a car, train or flight and let the melody transport you down the whirlpool of memories. As we bring a compilation of old and new songs that we think should be in every traveller’s playlist, do sing along till you end up with a sore throat.

Hit ‘play’ now!

Lootera, Zinda

Reminds us of the power of being, all you need for this song is a window and the frame of a concrete road and you will imagine gigantic grey water-balloon floating above it. Waiting to burst open a million dreams.

My personal favourite, this is the perfect song to hear first thing, on a cloudy Saturday morning on your road trip.

Patakha Guddi, Highway

Try listening to this while driving, especially, on a free road opening its arms out for you. With lakes, ponds, tunnels, trees. And a sun that looks so soft, you feel like you could cut it with a butter knife.

Dil Chahta Hai

The title song of this movie is shot during three friends’ road trip to Goa. The ultimate song for road trips if you are doing a Mumbai to Goa trip through the Konkan coast, where this song was shot.

Ilahi mera jee Aye, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani

If you ever get contemplative and all philosophical on your road trips, while sitting in the back seat driving through the sunset, then this song will add to your mood.

Tanha Dil by Shaan

This song is a must for solo trips, to get lost in nostalgia. Get swooned by Shaan’s voice. What’s more, the music video features the guy himself!

Musafir Hoon Yaaron, Parichay

Get the bohemian spirit in you alive. Nothing beats the combination of Kishore Kumar, Gulzar and RD Burman on the road. In true spirit, na ghar hain, na thikana…

Zindagi Ek Safar Hai Suhana, Andaaz

A classic again, you cannot miss the Kishore Kumar yodeling. So with this song on your playlist, hum away! Or ‘yodel’ if you may

Megha Paul
Megha is a hoarder of books and indie magazines. She is either on a trip or planning one. And in between, she becomes a storyteller and writes travel stories, too. You will find her exploring the city for new coffee shops. She prides herself with awesome taste in music and dreams everyday of receiving her Hogwarts letter.
