Here are the best secluded romantic destinations in India where you can escape to a quiet, romantic getaway with your significant other.
Minicoy Island, Lakshadweep
This is the southern-most island of Lakshadweep, and is one of the few inhabited islands in the Union Territory. The island offers several watersports and adventure activities like snorkeling, kayaking, scuba diving and banana boat rides. The waters near the island has three shipwrecks which are excellent scuba diving spots. If you are not into watersports, then simply head to a shady corner to laze on the silvery white sands and watch the million shades of blue of the ocean. It is one of the best coral beaches in India and is very clean which makes it one of the best secluded romantic destinations in India .
Butterfly Beach, Goa
Getting here is a bit of a hassle but the good thing about that is it keeps the crowds away. Located along the Palolem coastline, this beautiful beach is accessible either by a ferry ride or a 2 hour trek through dense forests with steep inclines. With its translucent water, silvery white sands and scenic palm groves, Butterfly Beach is often cited as one of the most photogenic beaches in the Arabian Sea. Take a romantic canoe ride along the tiny streams that criss-cross the island and end the day with a stunning sunset with dolphins frolicking in the foreground.
Mawsynram, Meghalaya
Huddled amidst the East Khasi Hills, Mawsynram is currently the wettest place on earth and the perfect getaway for nature lovers. The constant downpour renders this tiny hamlet with a surreal beauty that makes it a truly romantic destination. Follow the moss-covered slippery paths into dense forests, deafeningly loud waterfalls and secret caves and make it a trip both of you will remember for a lifetime. Visit the Nohalikalai Falls and later head to the Mawsmai Falls. If you still have time, visit the Mawsmai Caves and Malangbna.
Mararikulam Beach, Kerala
This beautifully secluded beach village is the perfect romantic getaway for couples who need a break from the urban frenzy. Spend your days taking long walks on wildflower-strewn alleys or on a secluded beach watching the beautiful sunset and ever-changing colours of the waves.
Chakrata, Uttarakhand
Chakrata is a sleepy hill station covered in dense forest of conifers, red rhododendrons and oaks. The major attraction near the town is a waterfall named ‘Tiger Fall’. Apart from the occasional birdwatchers and trekking group, the place remains desolate making it an ideal spot for those looking for some peace and quiet. Chakrata is also home to several temples like Mahasu Devta Temple, Radina, Thaina and Lakhamandal. The lonely winding roads, cozy cabins and the fog swept landscape makes it the perfect Valentine’s getaway. There are two routes to reach Chakrata from Dehradun – the shorter route via Kempty Falls & and a slightly longer route via Kalsi.
Dzukou Valley, Nagaland
If you are the adventurous kind of couple, then go for a trekking trip on this pristine hillstation located close to Kohima. The entire valley is carpeted by a thick flora of lilies, aconitum, euphorbia and rhododendrons so much so it’s often referred to as the “Valley of Flowers of North East”. The serenity of the dense forests, the crystal clear brooks and the exotic birds that you meet during the trek is total juxtaposition to the noise and chaos of urban cities. The terrain gets dangerously slippery during the rainy season so make sure you plan your trip during the summers. The best time to visit Dzukou Valley is between the months of May and August.
Yarada Beach, Andhra Pradesh
Located at a distance of 14 km from Vizag Railway Station, this secluded beach is the perfect spot for a romantic sojourn. The beach is surrounded by towering cliffs on three sides, rendering it a cozy, private beach-like feel. There are no shacks or shops in the vicinity and the only resort is located a little away from the main beach area. This is one of those beaches where you can relax, sip on your favourite poison and enjoy the beautiful sunset with your loved one.
